Project Description: Construction officially kicked off in May 2025 on our renovation + addition project for Kingston Standard’s new zero-fossil-fuel brewhouse and cellar. The project has since been completed and is now fully operational.
Work began with the demolition of the existing overhead garage door at the former Sunshine Market space, now transformed into the brewhouse. The interior was fully gutted, revealing an incredible original wood ceiling and existing steel structure, which was refreshed with a bold safety-yellow finish. After being boarded up for decades, the original factory steel windows were uncovered and meticulously restored to their original operable condition, becoming one of the project’s most striking features.
From there, the new addition took shape as the cellar component, complete with a drive-in cooler, offices, a bathroom and a kitchen. The masonry wall between the two buildings was rebuilt, with a new foundation excavated and poured, along with a floor slab designed with integrated drainage to support the brewhouse’s wet-space requirements.
Framing followed, along with the installation of scissor roof trusses, Marvin windows and a pale wood ceiling finish that brought warmth to the space. As the brewhouse equipment, piping and fixtures were installed, the project began to take on a natural rhythm and flow.
Most recently, the addition was completed with standing-seam metal siding and a new canopy, while interior finishes and plumbing fixtures were finalized. Following the issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy, the client officially moved in and began operations in Spring 2026.
Next up: the renovation of the original taproom. Stay tuned.
